A Look at Important Poker Player Stats to Track in 2022

Poker is an exciting game with lots for players new and old to learn. The game itself is rather simple as you are dealt two cards followed by five communal cards. Players make bets based on the strength of their hands and fold if they do not want to continue. Then the player with the strongest hand wins. It is incredibly simple, but that simplicity allows it to be more complex. There are many in-depth strategies that can help you improve your results. Despite poker being luck based in the short term, it is largely skill based in the long term. As a result, if you are trying to get into poker in 2022, there are some poker player stats for you to familiarize yourself with.

Voluntary Put in Pot

Voluntary put in pot, or VPIP, refers to the percentage of hands that you voluntarily put money into the pot, and it is one of the most important poker player stats for you to understand in 2022. So, this refers to hands you put money in the pot outside of the blinds. As a result, it indicates how often you are betting, calling, and raising. If you have a lower percentage, you are a tighter player. If you have a higher percentage, you are a looser player.

So, what should your VPIP number look like? You do not want to be too loose or too tight. Instead, you should be looking for a sweet spot between the two. The simple answer is that you should try to keep your VPIP between 15 and 20 percent. However, that is the simple number and as you get more experienced you will want to adjust that number. More advanced players can have VPIPs between 20 and 27 percent because they understand the subtleties of the game.

Preflop Raise

Preflop raise or PFR refers to how often you raise before the flop is revealed. Players with a high PFR are more aggressive than players with low PFR ratings. Your PFR range can be as low as 0 percent, and as high as the value of your VPIP. Ideally, your PFR will be a little lower than your VPIP, but not by a lot. Beginners in 2022 play too cautiously and their poker player stats reflect that. They call when they should be raising far too often. If you are not prepared to raise, you should consider folding. That is not to say that you should never call, but in many situations where beginners call in 2022, they should be raising.

A good PFR for players in 2022 is usually 2 or 3 percent lower than your VPIP. Having adequate percentages in these two poker player stats in 2022 indicates that you are playing generally strong hands and you are raising with those hands. This should improve your results overall.

Postflop Aggression Frequency

Another important statistic to look at in 2022 is postflop aggression frequency or Agg. This number indicates how aggressive you are as a player after the flop. This should be interpreted in relation to your VPIP. Players with lower VPIPs are typically more aggressive after the flop because they only play very strong hands. Beginners typically play too cautiously after the flop, regularly checking and calling. Advanced players understand that raising even when you have a weak hand is sometimes necessary.

The best poker player in 2022 typically have an Agg of 50 to 60 percent. That is assuming you have a VIP between 15 and 20 percent. If you have a higher Agg than that, then you are probably bluffing too much. If it is lower, then you are being too cautious in post flop play.

Big Blinds Won Per 100 Hands

The final of the poker player stats that we are going to look at is big blinds won per 100 hands. The above poker player stats are not important if you are not adequate in this stat. Having a poor percentage in this statistic is an indication that you are performing well as a player in 2022. For example, if you are playing at a table with $1 big blinds and you have won $40, you should think of that as winning 40 big blinds. If you do not have a positive number then you are losing money. That is obviously the last thing you want to happen as a poker player. So, you need to do everything you can to keep your big blinds won per 100 hands above the number of big blinds that you have bet in 100 hands.

If you are going to succeed as a poker player in 2022, you should consider tracking your poker player stats. If you are playing online, most sites track important stats like VPIP, PFR, and Agg. However, if you are playing at an in-person casino, you will need to track those stats yourself. That will be more difficult, but it is possible. Regardless, if you can get your poker player stats to adequate percentages, you will be an effective player in 2022.
